Boom Blox has been getting alot of rave reviews online. A recent review by 1up peaked my interest in Boom Blox. From what I heard and read early on the Steven Spielberg produced Boob Blox game did sound promising and not wanting to drop the $49.99 I set out to rent the game to see if it lived up to the hype.
In short I would say yes, Boom Blox is a great game. I think the question is not whether Boom Blox is a great game but is it the right game for you.
The video above shows some footage I captured of the tutorial mode. The footage below shows some general gameplay video.
Boom Blox is very fun with multiple people playing together. If you are looking for a game to play with friends and family of any age then Boom Blox is for you. Go get it. Although you can have fun playing solo I do not think that the single player experience is where its at. Boom Blox is a great party game. I don't think I would play it by myself though.
Sound:
The sounds and music is great. There are some really cool tunes and I never felt annoyed by the music or ever wanted to turn the background music off.
Graphics:
The graphics are a bit kiddy in presentation and there are jaggies when viewed on an HDTV but it does not hamper the experience and its pretty much a given with Wii games at 480p/480i.
Content:
In terms of content and variety Boom Blox has MUCH to offer. There are tons of stages and modes. There are the Jenga style pull , throw, and shoot gameplay types. You can select a particular one or mix it up.
Controls:
The motion controls are not at all gimmicky. The controls are some of the best I have experienced on the the Wii to date. The controls are responsive and accurate.
Summary:
Pros:
- Tons of stages and modes
- Stage Creator
- Tight Controls
- Easy to learn and play
- Music
Cons:
- Kiddy style graphic presentation
- Jaggies are noticible
VERDICT: If your in the market for a multiplayer/party game on the Wii get this!
