Alien Syndrome Wii review

Last week I bitched about the fact that no game sites had a review of Alien Syndrome posted when it was released so I took it upon myself to play the game. As I mentioned before I had this game for the Sega Master System back in the day and I liked it so I was a little excited that they decided to create a remake using Wii controls for the aiming and shooting.

The bottom line is that the graphics are horrible and it does seem like a straight PSP port. I didnt even expect HD or next gen graphics because the truth is that this shoot-em-up type game does not necessarily need superb graphics. The graphics seem extremely uninspired and boring. All the menus suck, navigating the menu systems suck and you end up killing the same enemy types over and over. The first stage had like only three different enemy types. When you consider that they did not spend much time on the look of the game they could at least give you bunch of different enemies to blast. Also unlike the original Alien Syndrome you can now run out of ammo leaving you to waggle helplessly like an idiot with a spear.

Now on to the good. The controls are for the most part excellent. The moving around with the nunchuck and aiming with the wii remote works well and allows for some very cool maneuvers. You can move the camera with by tiling the nunchuck sideways and its ok but they could have executed that better. The controls as a whole actually allowed for the potential of a great game but they screwed so much up and the game itself ends up seeming like an uninspired lazy effort. Compared to games like Resident Evil 4 for Wii which is great (especially if you haven't played other console versions of it) , its $20 cheaper and makes Alien Syndrome seem like a waste of time.
