So having bought a PSP recently and hearing that Bionic Commando Rearmed has PS3-PSP capabilities I decided to give it a go. Remote play is the ability to stream games, video and music from your PS3 to your PSP via Wifi over the internet or directly from your PS3 to your PSP. So whats the verdict? FAIL.
I am not saying fail because it doesn't work because it does work in the technical sense of the word. As you can see in these photos the games do stream to your PSP.

The fail is in the fact that its too laggy to be of any use as far as playing games is concerned. I tried directly connecting the PS3 to the PSP in the same room. Then I tried connecting over the internet. While the direct wireless connection between the PS3 and PSP was slightly better it didn't matter because both sucked and the lag was too much.

The action you would expect from pressing a button would happen on the screen too late after your actually pressed. After testing this with Bionic Commando rearmed I tried the test with Pixel Junk Eden. I figured that since Pixel Junk Eden was more basic visually than Bionic Commando Rearmed then it may actually be playable with at least an acceptable amount of lag. Well, Pixel Junk Eden was not much better if any at all. Disappointing.
So what we seem to have here is a feature that its a great selling point on paper but doesn't really work (for game playing at least) in practical sense. It does however work for streaming music just fine. I would totally pay an extra buck or two for the ability to fully download these "Remote Play" enabled games onto my PSP as opposed to streaming them. Even some sort of DRM/download to PSP solution would be better that what we have now with remote playing games.
