These videos are of the online component that comes with Metal Gear Solid 4 called "Metal Gear Online." Its a bitch to set up and get going on Metal Gear online. As many of you already know you need to sign up for a a Konami ID AND also you need a Game ID. These ID names and passwords cannot be the same and there are character length restrictions. The video above shows the menus and options upon entering the online mode.

Your PSN friends are not automatically added as playable opponents or teammates on Metal Gear Online. The friends list on Metal Gear Online is completely separate from your Metal Gear Online friend list. In order to add a friend they must also be online and signed in the Metal Gear Online game at the same time you are. I tried for like 30 minutes to add a friend and I could not get it going. Compounded with the fact that there is no in-game XMB on the Playstation 3 the whole experience sucked. There was no way for us to chat while we both tried to add each other and get the a game going.

The Metal Gear Online game itself is decent enough. For those that like slower paced multiplayer experiences I can see how it can be very fun to play Metal Gear Online. Once you get going all the sneak and CQC (Close Quarter Combat) options from Metal Gear Solid 4 are available. I also like the keyboard chat options. I did have problems getting in rooms and connecting to games more frequently than I should have.

In all I think that the addition of Metal Gear Online as a part of the Metal Gear Solid 4 game package is great. I have a hard time knocking it despite its quirks considering the fact that Metal Gear Online comes with Metal Gear Solid 4 which alone is worth the price tag without the online component. Personally, I would rather play Call of Duty 4 over Metal Gear Online to get my FPS war game fix but I can see how the mechanics of Metal Gear Solid 4 can be fun in a multiplayer setting online.
