Demon's Souls is an RPG and the first thing you do is set up your character. Your standard options like genre, class, facial details. You start off with a Tutorial that shows you the basic things you will need to know in the game. Mainly it just includes combat, as well as defense and using items.
To start off I have to say this is possibly the hardest game out there at the moment. Demon's Souls was released in Japan in February of this year and many gamers who didn’t want to wait until this October were able to import the game. I probably would of done the same if I did my research about it back then and saw the great reviews.
The game also has a lot of nice features. One feature allows you to leave messages on the ground for others to read. Usually these messages would be left by other players connected online via PSN warning about traps or hard to see treasures as well as any other tips people can use. While playing you may see ghost like characters and those are actually other people playing the game at the same time as you are. Sadly they don’t help you out very much but you might see them fighting enemies that may be hiding. Blood Stains is a mechanic which are replays other people’s deaths. This features shows a ghost like figure fighting and eventually dying. You never see the actual bad guys in the clip though. One bad thing is that you can't pause the game whenever you want. For example if you want to change weapons or go to the washroom make sure no enemies are around.
The combat is good though nothing stellar. Just as good as any other similar RPG game. You have your standard melee weapons. Swords, axes As well as long distance weapons like bows. You also have the option to wear rings. Each ring has a different bonus that can increase damage or increase HP. A nice touch is that is you can switch through non weapon items on the fly so you do not have to go through a list like in most role-playing games. Enemies sometimes drop items though usually items dropped are health items. Enemy weapons can not be picked up after they have been killed.
The music is well done. So it comes to no surprise that they actually bundle the deluxe edition with the soundtrack on a compact disc.
It is easy to recommend this game to anyone. But be aware that it is very difficult. Patience is required for success. When you die you must redo the whole level over from the beginning. If at all possible play it with friends as the game allows you to play with up to 3 other players online. So four might be more successful than one.
